Braze shares fell sharply as investors reacted to a moderation in revenue growth and emerging margin pressure in the company's fiscal second quarter of 2027. Revenue grew 26.2% year-over-year, but the pace of expansion slowed compared to the 30.2% growth rate recorded in the prior quarter, fueling concerns over the company's near-term trajectory.
Braze reported revenue of $227.2 million for the quarter, according to an Investing.com report. The market responded negatively to the cooling momentum and compressed profitability metrics.
Margin Compression and Operational Drivers
The company’s non-GAAP gross margin dipped 70 basis points year-over-year to 68.6%. Management attributed this contraction to two operational factors:
- Premium Messaging Volumes: Increased usage of higher-cost messaging channels, which carries a lower margin profile than traditional, lower-cost channels.
- AI-Related Headcount: Sustained investments in engineering and support staff dedicated to the firm’s artificial intelligence initiatives.
These investments are part of a strategy to integrate advanced capabilities into the platform. During the quarter, the company expanded its BrazeAI Operator, allowing marketers to build new "Canvas" workflow steps via conversational prompts and deploy pre-built automated agents.
Market Reaction and Strategic Scaling
Investor sentiment soured following the release, with Braze stock dropping 5.16% during regular trading on September 8, 2026. The sell-off intensified in after-hours trading, where the stock fell an additional 12.11%.
To support its long-term growth and infrastructure needs, Braze has entered a three-year Strategic Collaboration Agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Under the deal, the companies will provide dedicated resources, technical support, and funding to assist Braze in scaling its global operations. The agreement is intended to provide the cloud infrastructure to sustain the company's increasing messaging volumes while managing the overhead costs associated with its AI-driven product expansion.
