BMO Capital initiated coverage on Victoria's Secret (NYSE: VSXY) with a Market Perform rating and an $80 price target, pointing to the retailer's significant past equity gains and current valuation realities.

The initiation follows a volatile multi-year period for the intimate apparel brand, which has navigated shifts in consumer spending and strategic supply chain adjustments. While BMO's earnings estimates sit above consensus forecasts, analysts note that the stock's sharp advance requires careful weighing against ongoing margin pressures and sales expectations.

Earnings Performance and Revenue Dynamics

The coverage launch follows Victoria's Secret's second-quarter financial report, which delivered a mixed picture of top-line and bottom-line results. According to an Investing.com report, the company posted adjusted earnings per share of $0.95, beating the $0.75 consensus forecast among analysts.

However, quarterly revenue reached $1.61 billion, missing the $1.62 billion expectation. Despite the slight top-line miss, bottom-line profitability exceeded estimates due to cost discipline and inventory management.

Valuation and One-Year Stock Surge

Shares of Victoria's Secret have experienced substantial upward momentum, surging 195% over the past year. This massive rally has altered the stock's risk-reward profile, prompting major financial institutions to reevaluate entry points.

According to the Investing.com report, internal InvestingPro analysis indicates that shares are currently overvalued relative to its calculated Fair Value estimate. That valuation tension helps explain BMO's neutral Market Perform stance despite an $80 target.

Forward Earnings Estimates

BMO's optimism on the company's operational execution is reflected in its forward-looking profit projections. The firm established earnings estimates of $4.82 per share for fiscal year 2026.

Looking further ahead, BMO projects earnings to climb to $6.07 per share for fiscal year 2027. Both figures stand above current Wall Street consensus forecasts, signaling that BMO expects profit margins to outpace broader market expectations over the next two fiscal years.

What Is at Stake for Retail Investors

The positioning by BMO highlights the broader debate among institutional analysts regarding turnaround retail equities that have already experienced explosive short-term gains. As firms like UBS, BofA Securities, and now BMO update their models, investors must weigh whether aggressive earnings projections can justify valuations that have nearly tripled over a twelve-month span.
