Aktis Oncology has initiated a Phase 1b clinical trial evaluating its radioconjugate drug candidate AKY-2519 in patients with non-small cell lung cancer and other B7-H3 expressing solid tumors, according to an Investing.com report. The clinical expansion comes as shares of Aktis Oncology Inc (AKTS) trade lower in public markets.
"AKY-2519 has the potential to be a differentiated therapeutic option for patients with B7-H3 expressing solid tumors," said Akos Czibere, Chief Medical Officer at Aktis.
Trial Design and Dose Escalation
Designated as the BActinium-2 trial, the study operates as a multicenter, open-label evaluation of the targeted radioconjugate asset. Study protocols explore three dose levels, incorporating provisions that allow for enrollment expansion at selected dose levels throughout the escalation phase.
Radioconjugates like AKY-2519 are engineered to deliver targeted radiation directly to cancer cells expressing specific surface antigens while sparing healthy tissue. B7-H3 is an antigen frequently overexpressed across various solid tumor types, making it a target for oncology drug development.
Market Trading and Valuation Data
In public equity markets as of October 6, 2026, according to Finnhub market data, Aktis Oncology Inc (AKTS) traded at $17.86. The price represents a decrease of 3.56%, or 0.66 percentage points in absolute decline, compared to its previous close of $18.52.
What Early-Stage Trials Mean for Biotech Pipelines
The transition of a drug candidate into Phase 1b trials represents an important developmental milestone for oncology-focused biotechnology firms. Early clinical phases primarily focus on establishing safety profiles, identifying maximum tolerated doses, and observing preliminary signs of anti-tumor activity in human subjects before advancing to larger pivotal studies.
