YouGov shares rose 4.8% as the company reported fiscal 2026 results that met internal guidance and issued a positive profit growth forecast for fiscal 2027. The outlook relies on the firm’s accelerated Value Delivery Plan, a strategic initiative to streamline operations and improve margins.

"This has been a year of innovation and investment for YouGov," said Stephan Shakespeare, Chief Executive Officer, in a statement. "The business performed in line with the guidance provided, advancing our product development, strengthening our client proposition, and laying the groundwork to capture future growth opportunities."

Fiscal 2026 Performance and Growth Targets

For the fiscal year ending in 2026, YouGov reported revenue of £396.6 million, a 2% increase over the prior year. Despite the top-line growth, adjusted operating profit declined 11% to £54.3 million. The company attributed this contraction to capital allocation toward its Shopper division, which is designed to expand the firm's data analytics capabilities.

Looking ahead, management projects adjusted operating profit for fiscal 2027 to land between £58 million and £61 million. This guidance implies a year-over-year growth rate of 7% to 12% compared to the 2026 results.

Strategic Shift in Capital Allocation

The company also announced a pivot in its capital return strategy, replacing its fiscal 2026 dividend with a share buyback program. This initiative authorizes the repurchase of up to £15 million in shares, effective immediately.

Share buybacks are a mechanism used by corporations to reduce the total number of outstanding shares. This can increase earnings per share and signal management's confidence in the company's valuation. By moving away from dividends, YouGov is choosing to reinvest cash into the business or return value through equity appreciation rather than direct cash distributions to shareholders.

Operational Context

These financial adjustments are part of the Value Delivery Plan. This plan centers on integrating recent acquisitions and optimizing the firm's global research platform. The success of this plan is necessary to reverse the margin compression seen in 2026, as the company attempts to balance the costs of product development with the need for bottom-line expansion in a competitive data and analytics market.
