UBS Trims RH Price Target on Concerns Over Tariff-Driven Margins

UBS lowered its price target for RH to $154, citing concerns that recent margin growth was driven by one-time tariff refunds rather than organic performance.

UBS has lowered its price target for RH to $154 from $155, maintaining a Neutral rating, as analysts question the sustainability of the company's recent margin improvements. The adjustment reflects concerns that the retailer's second-quarter gains were bolstered by non-recurring tariff refunds rather than underlying organic growth.

"The margin performance was heavily influenced by a tariff refund, creating uncertainty for next year when the company will no longer benefit from this one-time item," analysts at UBS noted in a recent assessment.

Earnings Results vs. Margin Sustainability

RH reported second-quarter 2026 earnings per share of $2.70 on revenue of $922.2 million. These results exceeded consensus expectations, which had projected earnings of $0.39 per share on $915.4 million in revenue. Despite the earnings beat, the reliance on one-time financial tailwinds has triggered a more cautious outlook among institutional observers.

Diverging Analyst Perspectives

The move by UBS follows a trend of downward revisions among firms evaluating RH’s long-term margin trajectory. Wells Fargo recently reduced its price target for the stock to $175 from $225. According to an Investing.com report, Wells Fargo analysts expect core 2026 margins to decline by 140 basis points once the impact of tariff refunds is removed from the company's financial statements.

What Is at Stake for RH

For investors, the primary concern is the divergence between headline earnings growth and core operational efficiency. As the company moves into the next fiscal year, the absence of these non-recurring refunds may pressure profitability metrics. The current debate among analysts centers on whether RH can achieve organic margin expansion to offset the loss of these temporary benefits, or if the company will face headwinds as it navigates a more normalized cost environment.
