Twist Bioscience has entered a strategic agreement to supply high-throughput antibody characterization data to Eli Lilly's TuneLab platform. The goal is to improve the accuracy of AI-driven drug discovery models.
Under the partnership, Twist will provide specialized services for AbLab, which is an antibody developability prediction model. The integration allows TuneLab users to select specific Twist laboratory protocols to generate experimental data. This data can then be fed back into the platform to refine its predictive capabilities.
"The quality of an AI model’s output depends on the quality of the data used to train it," said Emily M. Leproust, Ph.D., CEO and co-founder of Twist Bioscience.
Integrating Wet-Lab Data with AI
Lilly TuneLab operates as part of the Lilly Catalyze360 ecosystem. This program provides biotechnology firms with access to strategic capital, specialized laboratory infrastructure, and proprietary technology. The collaboration addresses a challenge in computational biology. AI models trained on noisy or inconsistent experimental data often fail to predict how biological molecules will behave in a clinical setting.
By utilizing Twist's standardized wet-lab protocols, TuneLab users can ensure that the data used for federated training is generated under uniform conditions. Federated training is a method of machine learning where models are trained across decentralized servers holding local data samples. This feedback loop is intended to accelerate the identification of viable drug candidates by reducing the number of iterative rounds of physical testing required in the laboratory.
Market Performance
Investors responded to the announcement during the trading session on September 18, 2026. Shares of Twist Bioscience (TWST) closed at $166.99, marking a 7.35% increase for the day.
Implications for Antibody Development
The partnership highlights a trend of integrating foundry-style lab services directly into AI development pipelines. By embedding high-throughput synthesis and characterization directly into platforms like TuneLab, companies are attempting to bridge the gap between digital simulation and physical reality. This may shorten the development lifecycle for complex antibody therapeutics.
