The Boring Company has closed a $3 billion Series D funding round led by the United Arab Emirates, vaulting Elon Musk's tunneling startup to a $23 billion valuation as it accelerates international and domestic infrastructure projects.

The Series D round marks a substantial leap from the company's previous capital raise. The startup was valued at $5.7 billion when it secured $675 million in a 2022 funding round, meaning its overall valuation has more than quadrupled over the four-year span.

International Tunneling Plans and UAE Partnership

The fresh capital will directly fund large-scale subterranean transit systems. According to a Benzinga report, the expanded partnership with the UAE could eventually encompass more than 150 kilometers, or 93 miles, of underground infrastructure.

This initiative builds directly upon the previously announced Dubai Loop project. The venture also aligns with ongoing domestic efforts by the firm to expand transit loops in locations such as Las Vegas and Nashville.

Backing From Silicon Valley and Sovereign Wealth

Beyond the UAE and its affiliated investment entities, the funding round drew participation from a prominent roster of institutional and venture capital backers. Additional investors in the $3 billion raise include Human Capital, Vy Capital, Valor Equity Partners, Sequoia Capital, a16z, Temasek, Shamal Holding, and Baron Capital.

What Is at Stake for Urban Transit

The massive capital injection provides The Boring Company with the financial runway needed to scale its proprietary tunneling technology and heavy machinery manufacturing. As congestion mounts in major metropolitan areas globally, the firm aims to prove that low-cost, high-speed underground transit networks can offer a viable alternative to traditional surface-level rail and highway expansions.
