Seadrill Limited secured over $514 million in new contract awards and extensions spanning four geographic regions, pushing its 2027 fleet utilization past 85%, according to an Investing.com report. The offshore drilling contractor's latest backlog expansion reflects higher dayrates and sustained demand across international energy markets.

"The West Carina award marks the achievement of our longstanding strategic objective to reprice three legacy dayrate contracts to current market levels," said President and Chief Executive Officer Samir Ali, in a statement regarding the fleet updates.

Indonesia and Malaysia Contract Terms

The largest component of the announcement centers on the West Carina, which secured a contract with an undisclosed operator in Indonesia valued at approximately $420 million for the firm term. The agreement features an estimated firm duration of 880 days, with offshore operations expected to commence in the first half of 2027.

In Malaysia, priced and unpriced options were exercised for the West Capella drillship. This extension adds roughly $94 million in contract value and carries operations through February 2028.

Angola and U.S. Gulf Operations

Beyond its Asian deployments, Seadrill advanced its position in African and domestic deepwater basins through joint ventures and short-term charters:

  • Angola: Sonadrill Holding Ltd (Seadrill's 50:50 joint venture with an affiliate of Sonangol E.P.) secured a contract extension for the Sonangol Libongos, committing the drillship through January 2030.
  • U.S. Gulf of Mexico: The Sevan Louisiana was awarded a 25-day contract with Kosmos Energy, with operations scheduled to begin in November.

Fleet Utilization and Market Valuation

These additions drive corporate revenue visibility forward, with over 85% of available drillship days across Seadrill's operational fleet now contracted for 2027.

In public market trading, Seadrill Ltd (NYSE: SDRL) shares traded at $47.25, rising 2.07% from their previous close of $46.29, according to Finnhub market data.
