Qualcomm shares surged after the chipmaker announced a multi-generational artificial intelligence partnership with Amazon, anchored by a 25 million share warrant that pushes the company closer to its fiscal 2027 revenue targets.
"We'll start having revenue with Amazon starting the December quarter, and we're already in production with them," said Akash Palkhiwala, Chief Financial Officer, Qualcomm, in a statement regarding the partnership.
Core Terms of the Partnership
The multi-generational agreement focuses on custom silicon for artificial intelligence inference workloads alongside high-performance optical connectivity solutions scaling up to 1.6T bandwidth capacity.
Under the arrangement, Qualcomm will issue an equity warrant allowing Amazon to acquire up to 25 million shares of QCOM common stock as part of the commercial terms.
Operational Integration and Internal Tooling
Alongside hardware supply agreements, the operational scope of the deal includes mutual technology adoption across engineering workflows.
Qualcomm intends to accelerate internal development cycles by scaling up its utilization of Amazon Web Services tools, including Amazon Bedrock, for electronic design automation tasks in its semiconductor design pipelines.
What Is at Stake for Data Center Revenue
The agreement functions as a strategic vehicle for Qualcomm as it attempts to capture a larger share of the data center infrastructure market.
Securing a hyperscale cloud provider like Amazon for custom AI silicon validates the chipmaker's diversification away from mobile handsets and directly supports management's goal of achieving $5 billion in data center revenue by fiscal 2027.
