Japanese industrial automation company Omron has agreed to acquire U.S. industrial PC manufacturer Onlogic for $675 million. This deal combines Omron’s high-precision control hardware with Onlogic’s computing platforms to develop physical AI services.

After the acquisition, Onlogic and its parent company, Interlogic, will keep their current management teams. They will operate as an independent business unit within Omron. This acquisition expands Omron’s presence in the U.S. market and integrates edge-computing capabilities into factory robotics and control systems.

Strategic Rationale for Physical AI

By incorporating Onlogic’s industrial-grade PCs, Omron plans to build systems that process data at the machine level instead of relying on cloud infrastructure. This approach to physical AI enables autonomous decision-making in manufacturing environments where latency affects production lines.

"The acquisition is intended to combine Omron's high-precision control technology with Onlogic's industrial PCs to develop physical AI platforms and expand Omron's US customer base," according to a report by Investing.com.

Building on Automation Partnerships

This acquisition marks a shift in Omron’s strategy to move toward integrated automation systems. The company has developed these capabilities through external partnerships, such as a collaboration established in May 2026 with Comau to create industrial automation services. While the Comau partnership focused on service delivery and robotics, the purchase of Onlogic gives Omron direct ownership of the computing hardware stack.

Implications for Industrial Computing

This deal reflects an industry trend where automation providers seek to vertically integrate their technology stacks. As manufacturers require data-driven insights from assembly lines, the ability to embed AI models into ruggedized, industrial-grade hardware has become a competitive factor.

For Omron, the $675 million investment, as detailed in a Reuters report, bridges the gap between its expertise in precision control and the requirements for localized, physical AI applications in smart factories.
