Morgan Stanley initiated coverage of defense drivetrain supplier Renk Group with an equal-weight rating and a €50 price target, highlighting the company's vehicle mobility solutions sales growth and record order backlog.
The investment bank's price target implies about 15% potential upside from Renk's September 3, 2026 closing price of €43.58. The initiation comes as European defense contractors experience heightened demand amid broader regional military spending increases.
"Morgan Stanley initiated coverage of Renk Group at 'equal-weight' with a €50 price target," according to an Investing.com report.
Proprietary Backlog and Pipeline Analysis
According to the Investing.com coverage, Morgan Stanley's proprietary backlog analysis identified approximately €2.2 billion of signed original equipment backlog in the vehicle mobility solutions (VMS) division. This backlog is anchored by major armored vehicle programs including the Leopard 2A8, K2, Ajax, and Lynx.
Beyond signed contracts, the analysis pointed to an estimated €3.5 billion to €4 billion of pipeline upside. Vehicle mobility solutions suppliers provide specialized transmissions, gearboxes, and suspension systems for heavy tracked and wheeled military vehicles, representing a critical bottleneck component in armored vehicle manufacturing.
Valuation Framework: Bull and Bear Cases
In its valuation breakdown utilizing discounted cash flow and sum-of-the-parts methodologies, the analysis established wide outer bounds for the stock. Morgan Stanley's bull case values Renk at €73 per share, assuming faster conversion of the pipeline and accelerated margin expansion.
Conversely, the bear case values the stock at €35 per share, reflecting risks associated with supply chain bottlenecks, execution delays on major defense programs, or shifts in government procurement timelines. Meanwhile, shares of Morgan Stanley (MS) traded at $217.72, up 0.26% as of 2026-09-04T20:00:00.000Z, according to Finnhub market data.
