McCormick beat third-quarter sales and profit estimates as price increases offset slight volume declines driven by sluggish consumer demand, high gas prices, and a cyclospora foodborne parasite outbreak.
For the quarter ended August 31, McCormick reported sales of $2.02 billion, beating analysts' estimates of $1.98 billion, while adjusted profit came in at 86 cents per share versus estimates of 76 cents, according to a Reuters report.
"In the US, higher gas prices and the cyclospora outbreak have added pressure and contributed to softer traffic across foodservice and grocery channels," said Brendan Foley, Chief Executive Officer, McCormick & Company Inc., in prepared remarks.
Volume Pressures and Pricing Strategy
During the quarter, McCormick implemented a 2.2% price increase compared to the same period a year ago. Organic volumes dipped 0.3% overall, while volumes in the Consumer Americas division fell 2.5% as shoppers pulled back on discretionary spending.
Market participants continue to watch the pace of recovery in domestic retail channels. Barclays analysts noted that volume stabilization remains a central focus for shareholders evaluating the company's trajectory.
"The more gradual-than-anticipated volume recovery in Consumer Americas will likely remain top of mind for investors," said analysts at Barclays in a note to clients.
Market Position and Merger Integration
In the public markets, McCormick & Company Inc (MKC) traded at $45.40, down 0.31% from a previous close of $45.54, as of market close on October 6, 2026, according to Finnhub market data.
Alongside its quarterly financial disclosures, management updated investors on integration planning for McCormick's proposed $65 billion merger with Unilever's foods business. Executives stated that planning remains on track, with the company anticipating earnings-per-share accretion following the transaction's eventual close.
