LVMH posted third-quarter revenue of €18.5 billion, slightly topping consensus estimates as strong performance in the U.S., Europe, and Japan offset a 5% drop in organic sales within its core fashion and leather goods unit amid softening consumer demand in China.
"The Group remains confident and will maintain a strategy focused on continuously enhancing the desirability of its brands, drawing on the authenticity and quality of its products, its excellence in retail and its agile organization," LVMH stated in its corporate outlook regarding what it described as "an economic and geopolitical environment that remains uncertain."
Total organic revenue for the luxury conglomerate rose 1% during the third quarter. For the first nine months of the year, cumulative revenue reached €57.1 billion, representing a 2% decline on a reported basis but a 2% increase on an organic basis.
Divisional Performance and Offsetting Gains
The company's flagship fashion and leather goods division faced headwinds as organic revenue fell 5% during the quarter. According to a Yahoo Finance report, division revenue dropped to €25 billion from €8.5 billion a year earlier, pressured by reduced spending from Chinese clientele.
That drag was absorbed by other operating segments across the portfolio:
- Selective retailing: Led the group with 8% organic growth.
- Watches and jewelry: Advanced 6% on an organic basis.
- Wines and spirits: Grew 6% organically.
- Perfumes and cosmetics: Increased 1% organically.
What Is at Stake for the Luxury Sector
These results illustrate how geographic diversification cushions major luxury houses against localized macroeconomic slowdowns. While weakening consumer confidence in mainland China continues to challenge high-end apparel sales, international tourism and resilient local demand in European and North American markets supported overall top-line expansion for the Paris-based conglomerate.
