Lantern Pharma has secured regulatory approval in Taiwan to advance its Phase 2 HARMONIC trial. This authorization allows the company to expand dosing cycles for patients with specific EGFR-mutated lung cancer. The approval from the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration and local institutional review boards enables the opening of Part 2 of the study, which targets a patient population with unmet medical needs.

"Never-smoker lung cancer is most common in East Asia. In Taiwan, more than half of lung cancer occurs in never-smokers, and a meaningful share of those patients carry the L858R mutation, where outcomes on current targeted therapies have lagged those of other EGFR-mutant patients," said Panna Sharma, President and Chief Executive Officer, Lantern Pharma Inc., in a statement regarding the release.

Clinical Rationale for Trial Expansion

The expansion allows for LP-300 dosing to be extended from six to a maximum of eight cycles when administered in combination with carboplatin and pemetrexed. This change targets never-smoker patients who possess the EGFR exon 21 L858R mutation. The shift to eight cycles is supported by exploratory progression-free survival data, which suggests that extended treatment may provide better durability for this specific genetic subset.

The prevalence of these mutations creates a distinct clinical environment in Taiwan compared to Western markets. According to a company report, EGFR mutations are identified in 55% of advanced lung adenocarcinomas in Taiwan. By comparison, these mutations occur in 24% of cases in the U.S. and 14% in Europe. This makes the Taiwanese market a key environment for testing therapies aimed at the L858R mutation.

Enrollment and Operational Timeline

Lantern Pharma is currently screening patients at its lead clinical site in Taiwan. The company anticipates securing approval at two additional clinical sites during the fourth quarter of 2026 to accelerate enrollment.

"With these approvals, the next stage of HARMONIC™ opens where the need is high and where we expect enrollment to be efficient. That matters for how quickly we can get to a clear answer on LP-300," Sharma added.

Market Context

The regulatory milestone occurs as the company faces downward pressure in the public markets. As of October 12, 2026, Lantern Pharma (LTRN) stock was priced at $0.73, marking a 9.98% decline. The expansion of the HARMONIC trial represents a strategic effort to generate clinical data in a region where the target patient population is most concentrated, which may influence the development path for the LP-300 candidate.
