Jefferies has initiated coverage of MiniMed Group (NASDAQ:MMED) with a 'Hold' rating and a $22.00 price target. The firm stated that recent operational improvements are already reflected in the current valuation.
This neutral stance differs from other market participants, such as Truist Securities, which recently initiated coverage on the medical device firm with a 'Buy' rating and a $29.00 price target.
"The rating and price target are supported by the firm's survey and channel checks," said Michael Toomey, an analyst at Jefferies, in a statement regarding the coverage initiation.
Context of the Medtronic Split-Off
MiniMed Group is in the final stages of its separation from parent company Medtronic. As part of this transition, Medtronic launched an exchange offer that allows existing shareholders to trade their Medtronic shares for stock in the newly independent MiniMed Group at a 7% discount. This mechanism facilitates the divestiture and provides an incentive for investors to transition their holdings as the company prepares to operate as a standalone entity.
Analyst Views and Valuation
The initiation from Jefferies adds to the list of institutional views on the stock as it nears the completion of its split-off. While Truist Securities maintains an optimistic outlook, the analyst community is divided on the company's growth trajectory following its exit from the Medtronic ecosystem.
Other firms, including Wells Fargo, Bank of America, UBS, and StoneX, are monitoring the separation process. The disparity between the $22.00 target set by Jefferies and the $29.00 target from Truist reflects the debate regarding how much of the company's performance is already priced into the stock following the volatility associated with its independence process.
