Insulet Chief Executive Ashley McEvoy addressed recent guidance reductions driven by type 2 diabetes customer attrition at the Wells Fargo Healthcare Conference, framing the setback as an execution hurdle instead of a structural flaw in the insulin pump market.

"I would say this is an execution challenge, nothing to do with the structural advantage or attraction of the market, and we’re acting with urgency," said Ashley McEvoy, Chief Executive Officer, Insulet at the Wells Fargo Healthcare Conference.

Market Valuation and Share Pressure

The management commentary arrived as Insulet (NASDAQ: PODD) shares face downward momentum. According to market data from Investing.com, the medical device stock traded at $137.45, down nearly 60% over the past year and below its 52-week high of $354.88. Finnhub market data further recorded the stock at $134.68, down 2.35% from its previous close of $137.92.

Financial details accompanied the strategic update following an 8-K filing submitted to the SEC on September 10, 2026. Despite near-term headwinds in customer retention, Insulet maintained its target for 100 basis points of annual operating margin expansion, reported a gross profit margin of 71% over the trailing twelve months, and lifted its adjusted earnings-per-share growth goal to exceed 30%.

What Is at Stake for Continuous Glucose Technologies

The strategic pivot highlights the pressures facing diabetes technology manufacturers as they expand beyond traditional type 1 patient bases into the type 2 market. Broader adoption offers total addressable market expansion, but managing customer onboarding and retention introduces operational variables that can trigger revised financial forecasts and market scrutiny.
