Citizens reiterated its Market Outperform rating and $145.00 price target on Flutter Entertainment (NYSE:FLUT), pointing to the company's market-making strength and projected earnings against a backdrop of shifting Wall Street valuations. The stock recently traded at $100.11, down significantly over the course of the year.
"Over 60 companies that have entered sports betting since 2018, including well-capitalized, multinational operators, reinforce that capital and scale alone do not guarantee success; acquiring customers without the tools to retain and monetize them is ultimately just expensive marketing," said Jordan Bender, analyst at Citizens, in a statement regarding the rating.
Projected EBITDA and Market-Making Targets
Flutter Entertainment anticipates generating $50 million of market-making EBITDA in the second half of 2026. This financial projection underpins the bullish thesis from Citizens, distinguishing the operator from newer entrants struggling with monetization.
However, analysts across Wall Street maintain mixed outlooks on the broader online sports betting sector. Needham recently lowered its price target for Flutter from $135 to $110 while keeping a Buy rating, following second-quarter 2026 results that revealed U.S. operations reported adjusted EBITDA below expectations.
Sector Competition and Promotional Spending
Stifel also reiterated a Buy rating on Flutter Entertainment, highlighting a $385 million promotional investment slated for online sports betting in the second half of 2026. This heavy promotional spend aims to capture market share despite persistent customer acquisition costs across the industry.
Meanwhile, JPMorgan initiated coverage of the stock with a Neutral rating and a $114 price target, citing a 54% year-to-date decline in shares. Additionally, Bank of America anticipates that Kalshi's new fee structure on parlay markets could impact Flutter's financials, estimating a $4 million EBITDA effect during the second half of the year.
What Is at Stake for Betting Operators
The divergence in analyst targets underscores ongoing debates regarding customer retention, regulatory pressures, and profitability paths in competitive wagering markets. As operators balance expensive promotional campaigns against new fee structures from alternative platforms, sustainable earnings metrics remain a central focus for institutional investors.
