Bitcoin held flat near $84,420.2 by 17:53 ET on Tuesday, paring earlier losses as surging Treasury yields and spiking oil prices weighed heavily on broader risk-on assets.

While macroeconomic pressures tested digital asset valuations, the cryptocurrency absorbed the headwinds without triggering a deeper sell-off, supported by parallel regulatory developments in the digital asset sector.

Treasury Yields and Oil Surges Drive Market Pressure

The broader financial backdrop created significant friction for speculative and growth-oriented assets. According to an Investing.com report, the U.S. 10-year Treasury benchmark jumped back above 5%, reaching its strongest level since 2007.

Rising sovereign debt yields increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like Bitcoin. At the same time, sharp spikes in global oil prices intensified inflation anxiety among institutional participants, prompting a broader retreat from risk across global markets.

Regulatory Tailwinds Offset Legislative Delays

Cryptocurrency markets found offsetting support in regulatory relief, helping investors look past legislative headwinds. According to the Investing.com report, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced a five-year exemption for blockchain-based stock offerings.

This regulatory favor provided a constructive backdrop for digital asset innovation, blunting the impact of legislative stalls, such as the failure of the Clarity Act to clear Congress.

What Is at Stake for Digital Assets

The resilience demonstrated at the $84,420 level highlights a shifting dynamic between macroeconomic tightening and institutional adoption. As 10-year yields test multi-decade highs not seen since 2007, the ability of cryptocurrencies to decouple from traditional debt market pressures remains a central question for market participants navigating dual interest rate and inflation shocks.
