Babcock International reaffirmed its full-year guidance and medium-term outlook, driven by sustained demand across its marine, nuclear, and land operations as global defence spending rises.
"We have started the year with good momentum and operational delivery," said Harry Holt, Chief Executive, Babcock International, in a statement regarding the trading update.
Trading Momentum and Financial Estimates
Trading across the first five months of fiscal 2027 remained entirely in line with company expectations, according to an Investing.com report. Analyst consensus estimates project fiscal 2027 sales to reach £5.49 billion alongside an underlying operating profit of £464 million.
Those projected figures mark an expansion from the previous fiscal year, where the engineering group posted sales of £5.19 billion and an underlying operating profit of £293 million. The broader financial performance reflects heightened activity across naval refitting, submarine maintenance, and sovereign defence contracts.
Capital Allocation and Debt Management
Alongside its trading update, Babcock executed a series of capital management moves. In July, the company issued a £250 million six-year sterling bond to extend its debt maturity profile.
At the same time, management launched a £200 million share buyback program. The repurchase plan is scheduled for completion before the end of fiscal 2027, signalling balance sheet confidence amid increasing cash generation.
Leadership Transition
The guidance reaffirmation also coincides with a formal change in the executive suite. Harry Holt officially assumed the role of chief executive on July 31, successfully completing a planned leadership transition.
Former Chief Executive David Lockwood remains with the organization in an advisory capacity to support the transition until his formal retirement in January 2027.
