Affirm Holdings is targeting $100 billion in annual gross merchandise volume (GMV) by diversifying its product suite and expanding its international footprint, according to comments made by CEO Max Levchin at the 2026 Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference.
The company’s long-term growth strategy relies on a multi-layered algorithm. The firm expects 10% of growth from traditional point-of-sale products, 10% from direct-to-consumer offerings, and 1-5% from international markets and bank distribution channels. This push for scale aims to reduce reliance on any single revenue stream as the company matures.
"It is actually designed to be independent of any one thing. We certainly have lots of road to go in the U.S. alone," said Max Levchin, Chief Executive Officer, Affirm, in a statement regarding the firm's growth strategy.
Scaling the Affirm Card
A central pillar of this expansion is the Affirm Card, which has seen adoption over the past year. According to the conference transcript, the card has grown more than 100% year-over-year and now accounts for approximately 20% of the firm's total GMV.
Affirm’s core value proposition to merchants remains its 0% financing model. The company reports that this financing structure typically increases merchant basket sizes by roughly 80% and boosts conversion rates by approximately 25% compared to standard checkout flows.
Innovation and Long-Term Targets
Beyond current product lines, Affirm is focusing on a consistent innovation cycle to reach its long-term objectives. Levchin noted that the company aims to introduce a new product annually to maintain its momentum toward a larger, multi-year scale.
"The goal is to launch one of those every year. That is not the hard goal, but that is what will ensure we get to the $1 trillion of GMV, hopefully a handful of years from now," said Levchin.
Understanding GMV in Fintech
Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) is a standard metric used by e-commerce and fintech platforms to measure the total dollar value of merchandise sold through their systems over a specific period. For a buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) provider like Affirm, tracking GMV is essential for gauging the volume of consumer spending flowing through its credit rails. This volume dictates the company's fee-based revenue potential.
As the company targets these growth milestones, the focus remains on balancing the expansion of the Affirm Card with the integration of new financial products designed to capture a larger share of the U.S. and international consumer credit markets.
