Vicor Corporation shares jumped 10.6% following an Investing.com report detailing the company's acquisition of two New Hampshire sites to construct new semiconductor fabrication facilities, aiming to expand domestic production capacity for artificial intelligence hardware.
The power component manufacturer is purchasing a 334,000-square-foot building situated on 66 acres in Merrimack, New Hampshire, alongside a separate acquisition of 54 acres in Hooksett, New Hampshire. These properties will house the upcoming Vicor ChiP Fab-2 and Fab-3 facilities, which are designed to support surging demand for high-density power modules used in modern AI accelerators and data center infrastructure.
Expanding Beyond Andover
The new New Hampshire sites will dramatically scale up Vicor's domestic manufacturing footprint. Together, Fab-2 and Fab-3 will feature a combined operational footprint of nearly one million square feet upon completion.
This expansion follows the buildout of Vicor ChiP Fab-1 located in Andover, Massachusetts. That existing facility spans 320,000 square feet across 16 acres and is currently approaching full capacity utilization as orders for advanced power delivery architectures accelerate.
Deployment Timeline and Market Context
According to the company announcement, Fab-2 in Merrimack operates on an estimated one-year lead time to initial deployment, allowing the firm to bring incremental capacity online relatively quickly to meet tightening supply chains.
In the public markets, Vicor Corp (VICR) closed at $184.73, down 6.66% from its previous close of $197.91, as of 2026-09-14, reflecting broader volatility in semiconductor equities even as specific infrastructure announcements drive sharp single-day rallies.
What Drives the Fab Expansion?
The push for domestic fabrication capacity highlights a broader industry shift toward localized supply chains for critical semiconductor components. As data centers scale up power delivery networks to support dense AI chips, suppliers like Vicor face mounting pressure to secure physical real estate and establish redundant manufacturing hubs within the United States.
