Travel Food Services (TFS) reported a 35.6% year-over-year increase in consolidated profit after tax to ₹1.3 billion for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company grew earnings despite flat passenger traffic metrics. It achieved this result through network expansion and the diversification of its portfolio into premium passenger services.
"System-wide sales grew by 18% year-on-year to INR 8.4 billion, while consolidated profit after tax increased by 35.6% year-on-year to INR 1.3 billion," said Varun Kapur, Managing Director and CEO of Travel Food Services.
Operational Performance and Margin Pressures
Consolidated revenue from operations rose 20.6% to ₹4.5 billion during the quarter. The company experienced a contraction in its EBITDA margin, which fell by 308 basis points to 35.8%. According to the earnings call transcript, this margin compression resulted from pre-operating costs associated with the mobilization of new units at recently commissioned airports.
Management noted that these costs occur during the company's growth phase. New unit ramp-ups require 12 to 18 months to reach normalized profit levels. Greenfield airport projects require 18 to 24 months to reach full operational efficiency.
Diversification into 'Elite Assist'
TFS has expanded beyond its core food and beverage operations to address stagnant passenger traffic. The company launched its 'Elite Assist' brand at the Noida International Airport, entering the market for premium passenger services.
This new service suite includes:
- Meet and greet assistance
- Dedicated porter services
- Baby pram rentals
- Specialized wheelchair support
By layering these services onto its existing airport infrastructure, the company captures additional revenue from travelers seeking convenience, regardless of airport throughput fluctuations.
