Skillsoft shares fell approximately 15.7% following the company's fiscal second-quarter report. The report included a revenue miss and a downward revision to full-year financial expectations. Although the company outperformed consensus estimates for adjusted earnings per share, the market response focused on the softening revenue outlook as the firm manages a strategic transition.
"With the Global Knowledge divestiture complete, we are now a simpler, more focused company centered on our core enterprise opportunity and the continued development of our AI-native skills management platform," said Ron Hovsepian, Executive Chair and CEO, in a statement regarding the results.
Financial Performance and Guidance Revision
Skillsoft reported fiscal Q2 2027 revenue of $98.2 million, which fell short of the $125.4 million consensus forecast. The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.17, exceeding the $1.03 expectation set by analysts.
Following the quarterly results, the company lowered its full-year fiscal 2027 revenue guidance. Management now expects revenue to fall between $380 million and $390 million. This is a reduction from the previous forecast range of $388 million to $406 million.
Strategic Shifts and Market Pressures
Executives attributed the revised outlook to specific segments of the business facing increased headwinds. The company is prioritizing its enterprise offerings while managing the ongoing performance of its consumer-facing products.
"Our enterprise business continues to perform as planned, while accelerating pressure in the consumer business is reflected in our revised fiscal 2027 revenue outlook," said Ron Kisling, Chief Financial Officer.
Skillsoft is in the early adoption phase for new product offerings, including its LX Design Studio and AI Coach platforms. These tools are central to the company's objective of moving away from the structure that existed prior to the divestiture of Global Knowledge.
What Is at Stake
For investors and stakeholders, the current earnings trajectory highlights the friction in Skillsoft’s restructuring efforts. The market's sharp reaction shows the sensitivity of the company's valuation to revenue growth, particularly as it attempts to transition from its legacy business model to one centered on enterprise-focused AI skills management.
