Reliance, Inc. management reported steady demand across its North American operations during the 2026 Jefferies Global Industrials Conference. The company is using its domestic-focused supply chain to navigate shifting trade policies. With 320 locations and $15 billion in annual sales, the company maintains a strategy of product diversification and supply security to buffer against price volatility.

"We are the most diversified from a product mix and market exposure standpoint and the largest service center in North America. We cover a lot of different products and end markets. Overall, we would agree with the mills. The mills are very bullish," said Karla Lewis, CEO of Reliance, Inc., in a statement during the conference.

Shifts in Customer Sensitivity

Operational leaders noted a change in how customers approach procurement in the current industrial environment. As firms prioritize project continuity for infrastructure and data center construction, management observed that price sensitivity has become secondary to supply reliability.

"Our customers who are building equipment or making data centers, they just want to make sure that they have their materials. So as long as they know they have a secure supply, they are not as price sensitive as they have been in past years," said Stephen Koch, COO of Reliance, Inc.

Supply Chain Insulation

A core component of the company's risk mitigation strategy is its reliance on a domestic supplier base, which currently accounts for 95% of its total procurement. This structure provides a competitive advantage by insulating the firm from international tariff volatility and global supply chain constraints that often disrupt competitors with higher exposure to imported metals.

This operational stability is supported by the company’s logistics network, which maintains an inventory turnover rate of approximately 4.7 times on a consolidated basis. By keeping high turnover levels, the company manages the risk of holding depreciating assets in a volatile pricing environment while ensuring rapid delivery to end users.

Market Position and Economic Context

For industrial service centers, the ability to maintain consistent margins often depends on the speed of inventory turnover and the diversity of the customer base. Reliance, Inc. functions as an intermediary between primary steel mills and end-market manufacturers. It provides value-added processing services, including cutting, leveling, and coating, that allow manufacturers to outsource inventory management and material preparation.

As macroeconomic uncertainty persists regarding trade policy, the company’s emphasis on domestic sourcing acts as a hedge against sudden cost spikes associated with imported steel and aluminum. This approach is designed to maintain consistent throughput regardless of broader shifts in global commodity pricing.
