Oppenheimer raised its price target on Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NYSE:TEVA) to $52 from $50 following the regulatory approval of its long-acting injectable treatment, Weltruza, without restrictive safety warnings. The revision reflects stronger-than-anticipated pricing power for the newly cleared medication as the pharmaceutical firm prepares for commercialization.
"Oppenheimer raised its price target on Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NYSE:TEVA) to $52 from $50 while maintaining an Outperform rating," according to an Investing.com report.
Regulatory Clearance and Safety Profile
Weltruza, Teva's olanzapine long-acting injectable treatment, received regulatory clearance without several significant hurdles that typically accompany similar psychiatric medications. Specifically, the drug cleared review without a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy requirement, a mandatory post-injection observation period, or a boxed warning for post-injection delirium sedation syndrome.
The absence of these restrictions positions the treatment favorably against competing long-acting injectables that require monitoring facilities to retain patients for hours following administration. This clean safety label removes a logistical barrier for outpatient clinics and psychiatric practices considering adoption.
Pricing Strategy and Wholesale Acquisition Cost
Teva established a flat monthly wholesale acquisition cost for Weltruza at $3,950. According to the analyst note, this figure stands 47% above Oppenheimer's initial financial model assumptions, contributing directly to the upward revision in the 12-month price target.
Financial analysts monitor wholesale acquisition costs closely as a baseline before factoring in manufacturer rebates, wholesaler discounts, and institutional discounts negotiated by pharmacy benefit managers. The higher initial price point indicates management's confidence in the product's clinical differentiation and market demand.
Commercial Launch Timeline
Oppenheimer projects a measured rollout for Weltruza during the first half of 2027. Commercialization efforts in this initial window will focus on product sampling, securing hospital formulary additions, and navigating state-by-state Medicaid inclusion processes.
Meaningful revenue generation from the product is anticipated in the second half of 2027 as formulary approvals widen access across commercial and public health insurance plans. Long-acting injectables typically require quarters of institutional outreach to establish prescribing habits among psychiatrists and mental health networks.
