New Hope Group increased its saleable coal production by 8% to 11.5 million tons in fiscal year 2026. This growth helped the company maintain profitability even though average coal sale prices declined by 10%. The miner reported total revenue of AUD 1.8 billion and a statutory net profit after tax of AUD 161 million, according to the company's earnings transcript.

"2026 marked another strong year for New Hope Group as we continue to increase volumes and deliver our organic growth profile," said Rob Bishop, Chief Executive of New Hope Group, in a statement.

Operational Performance and Margins

Production volumes rose, but the average sale price for the firm's coal fell to approximately AUD 145 per ton. The company maintained a margin of AUD 45 per ton, which represents a margin of roughly 30%.

"Despite lower coal prices, the group’s low-cost assets delivered a solid margin of AUD 45 per ton, or approximately 30%," Bishop said.

Shareholder Returns and Future Outlook

New Hope Group declared a fully franked final dividend of AUD 0.30 per share for the period. The company returned AUD 206 million to shareholders throughout the 2026 fiscal year.

The firm is focused on expanding output at its New Acland operations. Production at the site is expected to reach 4 million tons in FY 2027, with a target of 4.5 to 4.6 million tons in FY 2028. The company aims to reach an annualized production rate of 5 million tons within the next 18 months.

Strategic Position in Energy Markets

Management emphasized the role of Australian coal in the global energy mix, specifically as an alternative to gas supplies. During the earnings call, Bishop noted that "coal from Australia is certainly a much safer bet than some of the other sources for gas," highlighting the firm's view on the long-term demand for its product despite volatility in global commodity pricing.
