NeurAxis expanded market access for its IB-Stim device after a major national health insurer established medical policy coverage spanning multiple states, adding approximately 18 million covered lives to the company's footprint.
With this latest policy adoption, the total national coverage footprint for Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Field Stimulation (PENFS) has increased to over 120 million covered lives, according to a GlobeNewswire report.
"Securing medical policy coverage for PENFS from one of the nation’s leading health insurers demonstrates tangible progress against these priorities," said Brian Carrico, Chief Executive Officer of NeurAxis, in a statement regarding the policy milestone.
Regulatory Approvals and Clinical Indications
The IB-Stim device is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat functional abdominal pain associated with irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia, including associated nausea symptoms, in pediatric and adolescent patients aged 8 years and older. The technology delivers low-frequency electrical impulses to branches of cranial nerves via an adhesive stimulator placed behind the ear.
Reimbursement pathways for the device have advanced alongside commercial insurance milestones. NeurAxis secured a dedicated Category I CPT code that became effective on January 1, 2026, establishing standardized billing procedures for healthcare providers utilizing PENFS therapy.
Market Position and Stock Performance
The reimbursement expansion arrives as NeurAxis continues commercial rollout efforts across pediatric gastroenterology centers. In public market trading as of September 18, 2026, Neuraxis Inc (NRXS) shares traded at $7.61, down 0.26% from a previous close of $7.63, according to Finnhub market data.
What the Insurer Coverage Means for Access
Broad adoption by major national health plans reduces financial barriers for patients seeking non-pharmacological treatment options for chronic gastrointestinal disorders. Commercial coverage policies typically dictate whether providers can routinely prescribe and receive reimbursement for specialized neuromodulation devices, making multi-state insurer adoption a key metric for medical device commercialization.
