TelevisaUnivision is integrating the Genius Sports Moments engine into its Liga MX broadcasts to embed live data and real-time advertising triggers. This move is intended to monetize the most-watched soccer league in the U.S. The new broadcast format debuts on September 12 during the match between Toluca FC and Atlas F.C.
"As the league commands massive viewership on our networks and platforms, this presents a unique opportunity to deepen fan engagement among US Hispanic audiences and drive innovative value for our advertisers," said Andrew Captan, EVP of US sports sales at TelevisaUnivision.
Technical Integration and Commercial Strategy
The partnership uses the GeniusIQ platform, which was deployed across all 18 Liga MX stadiums in May. This infrastructure captures and predicts live gameplay data, including player milestones and win probabilities. The Genius Sports Moments engine then processes this data to create dynamic overlays for viewers.
The system also introduces a new commercial model. By utilizing real-time triggers, the platform identifies high-intensity moments during live matches. This allows brands to sponsor specific events as they happen on the pitch.
"Genius Sports Moments uses live game data to power real-time insights for fans while taking key moments in the action and turning them into sponsorable inventory for brands," said Sean Conroy, EVP of Rights & Partnerships at Genius Sports.
Market Context and Engagement
Liga MX holds a position in the North American sports market, consistently drawing larger audiences than many domestic European leagues. By automating the identification of moments, the partnership addresses the difficulty of aligning brand messaging with the unpredictable nature of soccer matches.
The initiative will continue throughout the remainder of the current season. By embedding these data-driven triggers, TelevisaUnivision is shifting toward a model where advertising inventory is tied directly to game-state performance instead of static, pre-planned slots.
