BioMarin Pharmaceutical is expanding its rare-disease portfolio as VOXZOGO revenue growth accelerates. This performance led the company to raise its full-year sales guidance for the treatment to a $1 billion midpoint. The results reflect expansion within the firm's metabolic conditions segment, which generated $2.1 billion in 2023 revenue.
This metabolic business has maintained a 9% compound annual growth rate over the last three years, according to a transcript from the Wells Fargo Healthcare Conference. VOXZOGO is available in 55 countries and saw a 14% revenue increase in the most recent quarter, driven by a 20% rise in patient adoption.
"The world one drug that would offer the superior growth," said Greg Friberg, head of R&D at BioMarin, regarding the company's focus on next-generation therapeutic pipelines.
Resolving Competitive Litigation
BioMarin finalized a legal settlement with Ascendis Therapeutics, which clarifies the competitive environment for its products. Under the terms of the agreement, BioMarin secured retroactive royalty payments of 20% on U.S. sales and 18% in the EU, Brazil, and South Korea.
This settlement removes uncertainty regarding market exclusivity and revenue capture in international territories. By securing these royalty streams, BioMarin intends to protect its commercial infrastructure and reinvest in its research and development pipeline, which is central to its strategy of addressing rare genetic conditions.
Market Position and Infrastructure
The company is using its established global commercial network to support the rollout of new therapies. As BioMarin navigates competitive pressures in the biotech sector, the integration of these assets remains a priority for management. The ability to maintain growth in the metabolic segment while resolving intellectual property disputes serves as an indicator of the firm’s operational stability for companies sustaining product pipelines beyond initial patent life cycles.
