Barclays upgraded ASOS plc to 'Equal Weight' from 'Underweight' and doubled its 12-month price target to 420p from 210p, driven by strengthening debt metrics and asset sales.
The rating change reflects improved balance sheet stability following the disposal of major logistics facilities, positioning the online fashion retailer for a planned debt refinancing cycle.
"We forecast clear positive equity free cash flow in FY28 and an EFCF yield of 11%, providing a much-needed valuation anchor," Barclays analysts wrote in a note on Investing.com.
Warehouse Sales Drive Net Cash Gains
The improved debt outlook stems largely from two recent warehouse transactions that generated significant net cash for the company. Proceeds from the sale of the Lichfield facility in the UK and an Atlanta distribution center in the U.S. brought in £115 million.
According to the Investing.com report, these capital inflows are projected to reduce net debt, excluding lease liabilities, to -£63 million by the end of fiscal year 2026. This represents a substantial decline from -£320 million recorded in fiscal year 2024.
Refinancing Strategy for 2027
Beyond asset disposals, the investment bank anticipates structural changes to ASOS's funding mechanisms. Barclays expects the retailer to execute a comprehensive debt refinancing in early 2027.
The refinancing is designed to replace expensive convertible bonds with a standard term loan facility, lowering overall borrowing costs and extending debt maturities as operational turnaround efforts progress.
Valuation Anchor and Cash Flow Outlook
For equity holders, the shift in debt trajectory removes a major overhang that previously weighed on the stock during its multi-year operational restructuring. The projected 11% equity free cash flow yield for fiscal year 2028 provides analysts with a measurable valuation baseline as the company transitions from stabilization to normalized retail operations.
